my week in pictures

I have been trying to do a post here for a couple of days, but silly blogger was down every single time I would try… So here I am finally:)

Tuesday was our last day of this semester working with cows as two tuesdays from now we will be starting working with horses. So I decided that I needed some photo documentation to prove that I actually did work with cows. I can’t say that I would necessarily consider myself a large animal type of person, I really like cats & dogs, although I do have to admit that large animals are not so bad. Most of them could use a bath, but well….

Some of them are actually pretty cute, including these two:) These are both baby Holsteins, but they are past the age of being kept in the tiny little holding pens that babies are put in and are now in a slightly larger area with a bunch of other babies. Do you think they are best friends? :)

This was probably my favorite little one out of the whole bunch. All the babies are pretty skidish of people, but this one was so cute and curious. I just wanted to take her home with me:)

Now the picture that I am sure most of you have been waiting for! Me, standing next to a full grown cow listening to her lungs. (Actually, she is a Jersey, which is a smaller breed of cow. We also worked with full grown Holsteins that go up to at least my shoulders.) This was after she tried pushing me off the ledge that she was on when I tried to take her temp earlier. Besides that she was a pretty nice cow and kept turning her head around to say hi and see what I was up to.

Most of the cows are fairly shy or just aren’t sure about what you might do when you reach out to them. This one though would actually lift her head up to your hands. Notice the gloves on my hands, originally we were not going to be given gloves at all. However, some illness spreading around the barn luckily put a stop to the no gloves:)

Of course, what would going to a farm be like without getting to stop and see the bulls?

This is by far my favorite picture of one of the bulls. Don’t you just love the nose ring? :) He was a pretty cool bull, he would talk to us a little and kept trying to lick if you got close enough to his pen. Oh and that huge gap right there, yeah he could stick his head completely through but it stopped him at his shoulders. Makes you feel really safe! I was actually surprised though, even though he was pretty crazy and I would not want to be anywhere nearby if he ever got out, I actually expected the bulls to be even crazier. They don’t seem crazy in a mad way, which is what I always imagined, they are just crazy in a sort of dumb bull sort of way.

I got a new winter coat this week, since winter is slowly creeping up on us. It has been really raining the past couple of days and chilly outside. I wasn’t really planning on buying a winter coat this year, since I already have my red go out in the snow type of coat, my white wool coat, and a black peacoat. However I just could not pass this coat by when I saw it and it was probably about time to retire my black peacoat anyways….

So if you are standing reading this you might want to sit at this point. I got my lip pierced this week:) And, no you did not read that wrong.

I really like it, and it didn’t really hurt at all to get it pierced. Although it has been hurting a little bit since then (okay quite a bit, but that is to be expected). It is also definitely strange eating with it in, but I am getting used to it. My nose ring probably took me at least a couple weeks before I could figure out how in the world I was supposed to blow my nose with it in:) The piercing is actually a little below my lip (where I wanted it) and I had it pierced with a stud. Definitely fun!

Oh and of course, I have to share my two favorite pictures of Pounce & Axel this week. I think Axel was actually looking at Pounce in the top picture, and well Pounce was totally out in the bottom picture.

Besides all of the above mentioned stuff, this week was a fairly busy week for me. I had a large animal practical, a small animal practical, a written exam in both of those classes, and a quiz in my vet drugs class. So I am really glad it is the weekend finally! Although I am trying hard not to think about the medical terms exam that I have to study for, the cat anatomy practical I have, and other assorted stuff for this coming week… Relaxing right now instead!

dresses, dishes, scarves, flowers- just a few of my favorite things

It has been quite awhile since I posted anything…. I keep meaning too, but with school and all it is a little busy around here. This week has slowed down a little, but the last few weeks were pretty crazy.

Two weekends ago, Ben and I took a little road trip to see Ben’s brother get married. Of course I took this opportunity to wear the new dress that I had made quite awhile back. My mom keeps asking me for pics, so here is a picture of me wearing it on the day of the wedding.

Look at how long my hair is getting! I hardly ever wear it down right now because of school, so sometimes I forget how long it has gotten. (Although getting it up in anything besides a ponytail is becoming a challenge because of how thick it is.)

I wish I had taken more pictures of things like the pretty fall leaves when we were visiting for the wedding, but I don’t seem to ever think about taking pictures except later. So instead of a picture of pretty fall leaves, how about a picture of some pretty blue & white dishes?

When we were visiting, my mom-in-law gave me the two blue & white dishes on the left. Which was so nice of her, because both dishes are beautiful! The plate on the right was a birthday present from my mom this year and I just had to get it out when I took the picture:) I actually am starting (or started years ago) a collection of blue & white dishes. My goal is to someday have complete place settings of all mismatched blue & white dishes. The color makes them all go together, while the patterns keep each dish unique. Plus, I know when most people break a dish it ruins their whole set, but this way one dish won’t make a difference since you can go replace it with any other blue & white dish (although I definitely won’t be breaking any dishes on purpose!).

This weekend I managed a little time in for some sewing. I am working on making a purse for a friend (hey, Jes!), but the going was a little slow as I tried to figure out how in the world to design her purse. It clicked finally though so hopefully I will get some time in to work away at it. The other little project I worked on was a scarf for me. Since I can’t have the way too expensive L.A.M.B. coat, I decided on the next best thing… making a scarf out of a similar material & print. (Okay probably the next best thing would have been making a coat, but that would just take way too much time….) So here is my new scarf being modeled by Pounce:)

I think he likes it! After all it is pretty snuggly and warm, and no real leopards were harmed in the making so what isn’t there to like about it, right:)

Speaking of animals…. okay huge jump here. I milked a cow today! Yep, little city girl me milked a cow:) Okay I did jump when she moved her leg a little, but still who would have imagined me someday working with cows. It is pretty cool, even if they are a tad bit on the dirty side at times (oh and that smell….). Oh and not so great story, but while we were all doing physical exams on the cows some of the barn workers came in to get two of the cows. So everyone was like, hmm wonder where they are going when one of the guys abruptly said something like “yeah she has a one way ticket to the market.” Anotherwords she was going to market to be sold as food. Hmm, I didn’t eat beef before but I think that if you weren’t a vegetarian before working with cows it may convince you to become one after working with them. So next time you eat that hamburger ;) okay just kidding… I won’t say anymore about that.

On a better note, here is a picture of the pretty roses Ben brought me the other day. (Ignore the odd placement right next to the wall. This is the only place that is high enough to put them where I can enjoy them and Axel can’t get to them.) Thank you Ben!

Well I suppose that is the last two or so weeks of my life in a really short version. Maybe I should try writing more often:) It seems like I am always thinking of things but not having enough time to write. This little cold that I have had hanging on isn’t helping much either… go away cold :) I have a lot of school stuff coming up next week, but I also have a lot of creative ideas floating around in my head so I am sure that I will probably post again soon. Hope everyone is having a great week!

studying – the story of my life

not much to say right now, except that I am fairly stressed and pretty sick of people today :( i know that i have not wrote a blog entry in a while, and this one doesn’t really count. but i just wanted to say that soon i will, i promise, and i will update everyone who reads my blog with everything i have been up to in the last week or two weeks… (although that is mostly just school, even though i did go to a very nice wedding for two nice people last weekend…) for now, i just need to chill though and not think too much about the homework & studying i should be doing (although you can bet that a lot of that is going to be happening tonight whether i like it or not)
