changes in the air

It must be a season for changes, it seems like a lot of people whose blogs I read have decided to make a few changes in their lives. My change today was withdrawing from the vet tech program at school. It took a lot of consideration and talking with Ben, but I think I have made the right decision for myself. There were just a lot of little things adding up, but overall the program and its head had some issues. I don’t really want to go into all those issues here, in fact I just want to move on with life so that is what I am going to do. Rather than let that person get to me, I am going to forget about all of it and enjoy my life!

So now I am going to have lots of spare time to do whatever I want! I definitely have some goals for that free time though… some of those goals include:

  • starting a crafting notebook where I jot down ideas and designs for new projects and such
  • getting our home more organized and clutter free (Ben probably loves this one, I tend to collect stuff sometimes:)
  • finishing the blanket that I have been knitting for far too long and maybe starting a new knitting project
  • learning how to actually cook, experimenting with eating new foods and such (have you ever tried organic milk out of a bottle instead of a plastic jug? it is so much better than the stuff you get at the typical chain grocery store!)

Okay, those are not my only goals for this time, but you get the general picture. I guess my main goal is just to learn more about life and enjoy the time I have to a fuller extent. Oh and since I will have more free time, maybe I will post on my blog a little more frequently. Just a warning though… I think the focus of my blog may change a little too since I am going to be doing new things. Hope no one minds! :)

our computer is smoking

About five minutes ago I asked Ben to turn on our server (yes we have our own personal server, I am after all married to a software engineer). Being the nice husband that he is, he turned it on for me at which point we both heard a very loud pop! He also some some sparks fly out the back and when I turned around the computer had smoke pouring out of it. Bummer! Luckily, we have decent back ups and he thinks the hard drives in it are probably okay. Still, it is kind of crazy to watch a computer with smoke pouring out. I guess it means that he is going to get to pick out a new server or build his own server finally!

Oh and I am very, very glad he was home when it happened…. not sure what I would have done if he hadn’t been!

Snow Day

Snow Day! School was cancelled today due to the storm that is blowing through the midwest. It is actually fairly impressive…. we have gotten quite a bit of snow, over a foot already, it is still snowing plus there are winds up to 30mph which is blowing all of that snow around. The state we live in actually declared a blizzard warning and my college cancelled classes, which I guess never happens. Unfortunately, Jes & I still had to get up this morning to do kennels at school, which ended in both of us getting stuck on our ways home from school. Luckily, she got some help pushing her car out and Ben helped shovel my little Hyundai out (which meant that he had to shovel almost our whole alley in order to get the car parked again).

Home finally, I took some pictures of the snow.

Keep in mind that all of those pictures are from about 9am this morning, and it has not stopped snowing since then…. Oh and it is supposed to continue until at least midnight tonight. Needless to say we are completely snowed in. Especially since, I swear this city only owns 2 snowplows at the most (I actually saw them using a piece of construction equipment to semi-plow the streets earlier, it really wasn’t working either). The best part though is that school is cancelled again tomorrow! Two snow days in a row is pretty sweet in my opinion. I might as well enjoy it, since I am sure when you start having kids snow days becoming less exciting and a little more like work:)
