Apparently when we moved to Seattle from Illinois some of our Christmas decorations didn’t make the move, including the Christmas tree skirt we had (which was probably from Target in all honesty – so it was not much of a loss). So I decided this year to make my own following Amanda’s tutorial.
I made a few changes… Instead of log cabin blocks, I just used 1 fabric where there would have been a log cabin block. I also used a fun print in the center, although you can’t see it very well when it is under the tree. Oh and I had to make the center circle slightly bigger since it didn’t quite fit around the tree trunk otherwise.
I have been practicing my free motion quilting for months now (on large scraps of fabric & batting), but this was the first time I actually used free motion quilting in a project. I love how it turned out & I think I might be addicted to free motion quilting now. Well addicted to quilting in general might be a more accurate statement really!
I love how it looks under our Christmas tree (which I do not want to take down even now that Christmas is over…)
We had quite the adventure getting our Christmas tree this year. The transmission in our car died about a week before Thanksgiving, so we were without a car for several weeks until we found a new one. I really wanted a Christmas tree though & we decided to get a real one (although we might have been able to get a fake one on the bus – but neither of us really wanted a fake one). So we walked a few blocks to buy one and then walked home carrying the tree :) It was so heavy and must have been a funny sight, but totally worth it. We laughed most the way home and I am sure we will remember our tree this year for a long time :)

I just blogged about needing a tree skirt and referenced Amanda’s tutorial. I like how you just used one large block (even though the log cabin design looks splendid) I have to consider my time commitment of actually finishing the project! I should probably head to the fabric store and get some clearance holiday prints to make this. Your tree looks great too! Love the red ribbon garland. :)
now THAT is a beautiful tree skirt! i almost threw ours away this year…it is pathetic! :)
Beautiful tree skirt! I really should make one next year. Your tree looks great too!
Beautiful, Chara!!!
i love the tree skirt! you did a great job on it. and i love your tree story…definitely a memorable christmas! :)
brilliant! I love that it is square instead of circle. Maybe I’ll give it a go next year.
it is stunning chara!!! You are so talented. I used that exact ribbon on my tree last year :)
Hope you had a lovely holiday season and a happy new year

Sooooooo pretty!
Happy New Year.
that is lovely, Chara! Absolutely lovely!
I love it ! Any free motion quilting tips ?
I have tried a few times on some small scraps and I get so frustrated, when it doesn’t work. I keep getting this messy birds nest of loops underneath…..*sigh*
