Fabric Wall Art – A Mini Tutorial

I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I actually made these about 3 years ago. (Yes, you read that correctly…) I put these together when we lived in our apartment before we bought the house we live in now. I just never got around to hanging these on the wall (in either place) until about a month ago… Oh well! At least I finally hung them up, right! :)

These are really easy to make & a great way to switch out your artwork when you get bored! I used fabric, but you could also use scrapbooking paper (you just might have to get creative & tape or glue it instead of stapling).

To make your own fabric wall art you need -

  • Fabric
  • Several cheap painting canvases (you can get the really cheap ones, since you won’t be painting on these – I bought mine at dickblick)
  • A staple gun

I have also seen people use foam core, but personally I think the painting canvases will hold up better over the long run & look a little nicer wrapped…

1 – Anyways, cut your fabric to size. Be sure to cut enough to wrap it around the sides & the back. My canvases are 12″ square, so I believe I cut my fabric about 14″ square.

2 – Wrap & staple while pulling the fabric tight so that it doesn’t wrinkle. (It is best if you have two people for this step, one to staple & one to hold the fabric. Just be very careful of fingers & hands!)

Pretty easy! It doesn’t take a lot of fabric & the canvases are not very expensive, so it is a great art option (and I won’t feel guilty changing it out if I get tired of the fabric!).

Baby Receiving Blanket

I feel like I should say – now back to our regularly scheduled programming…. After all this is a craft blog, right :) And amazingly enough I actually have some crafting to share, some quilting inspiration, and a work in progress (or two). Since actual crafting is so rare around here lately though, I think I will split it into several posts starting with a finished project!

This baby receiving blanket is totally not going to be a surprise (more than likely), since the mom-to-be (my sister in law) sometimes reads my blog. However, I just couldn’t resist sharing this (before I even sent it in the mail – after all the baby isn’t due for a couple more months ;).

I used the cutest cotton with puppies on it for the front (since they have 2 “older siblings” in the form of two darling dachshunds). Then the back is a soft polka dot flannel, perfect for wrapping baby up all nice & warm…

Now to get this in the mail for the little one before his arrival! :)

Baby Shower

The last couples weeks have been so busy, that I am so proud of myself for regularly blogging despite the craziness. Our puppy comes home in just a couple short weeks (time has really flown by!). I have countless photo sessions (everyone is quickly trying to fit in senior portraits & such before winter sets in completely), school portraits for a private school in the area, and a wedding (that I am really looking forward to) in between all of it. It has been a very busy summer & fall, in fact I think I could use a vacation! Another month or so & hopefully I can take a few days off work (for sewing & just spending time with my family :) In the meantime while I don’t have much of anything crafty to show, I do have some baby shower photos (with a little bit of crafting at the shower) to share… (And more posts lined up despite the craziness! :)

This summer a few of our friends have been expecting, so I offered to throw two of the expectant mother’s we know a baby shower :) We ended up doing a joint baby shower to celebrate the two mother’s since they are close friends. It was actually a lot of fun to put together, although it was nice to have some help in the form of my own mother coming to visit. Since the shower, one of the little one’s has arrived (and I took his newborn portraits last week!) and the other one will be on his way soon :)

I didn’t take a whole lot of photos at the shower, since I was busy trying to be a good hostess. I got a few though of course :)

Little treat buckets to take home…

While I did a lot of the planning, prep, and decorating for this shower – I didn’t have to do a lot of food prep or cooking. Which was amazing, since I am not much of a cook (to say the least :). Friends chipped in to help with food & there was seriously so much yummy food!

(Simple, but cute way to decorate for a baby shower – small little onesies hanging on a clothesline with little clothespins :)

A cutesy card box for each of them to keep cards & keepsakes in from the shower :)

Of course we had to have a onesies & bibs decorating station! :) I cut out a bunch of appliques ahead of time for guests to iron on & also had a few iron on decals & fabric markers for decorating… It was a lot of fun to see how guests decorated these! I wish I had taken a photo of all of them finished & hanging on the line…

My mother was a great assistant & made sure we got to all the cute touches I had planned, including decorating outside on our porch… Loved the floating flowers (which was actually her idea)!

Overall I think the whole party quite the success :)

Okay & can I just say it is official, I am totally addicted to pinterest! I would love to have some more people to follow, so if you are on pinterest leave me a comment telling me your name on there :)
