Silhouette SD – Family Wall Art

Look what arrived this past weekend!

I was so excited to get this out of the box & start using it! Just to try it out I cut the word “family” out of the vinyl & applied it to the wall in our bedroom… I actually probably won’t leave this one up, since it really was more of an excuse just to get my Silhouette out of the box, but I am looking forward to making other vinyl wall art for around our house. I left the light switch in the photo so you could see the size of this.I have a bunch of projects in mind to make with this! I am sure I will be sharing more projects I have made with it soon! If anyone else has a Silhouette machine, I would love to hear what you have made (since more project ideas are always fun!).

Mini-Crafting Retreat

I had a lovely time hosting the “mini-crafting retreat” at my house that I mentioned in my last post…

I meant to blog about it sooner, but life is crazy (I feel like a broken record on this, but I am sure we can all relate)… It was a lot of fun with a total of 9 ladies all working on various projects at one point during the day. I set up my living room & dining room for everyone to work and it was a little tight, but it worked out well (if I say so myself :).

There was a little bit of quilting, card making, knitting, scrapbooking, and sewing…

Isn’t this card absolutely stunning!

My friend L. makes these & I really think she needs an online etsy shop… I am lucky enough to get cards from her occasionally & they are always my favorites! (She made me a set of thank you cards awhile back that I could actually use myself to give to people & I have found myself hoarding them, because they are so beautiful!)

I had so much fun with this, I really think I might have to have another one soon! Everyone brought a bagged lunch & we all just worked throughout the day & took breaks to chat whenever we felt like it…

Although I have to admit I didn’t actually work on my quilt! Oops! I discovered though that I needed some more fabric for the back before I could finish it, so I started another project instead…  I am just loving the blues & greens in this new project… Hopefully this one won’t take me as long as the quilt seems to be taking me :)

Crocheted Stones

There is something about bringing nature inside the home & decorating with it… It just appeals to me & since plants do not work well in our home (you would swear we had two kittens in our house – not 5 yr old adult cats! – the cats try to eat everything green) I am often looking for other ways to bring nature in. So when I stumbled across crocheted stones I fell in love :)

Last summer I bought one from the fabulous Resurrection Fern, her crocheted stones are beautiful works of art. Every time she makes them though they all sell out very quickly & I had to have a few more. So I actually bought a crochet magazine that she had a couple patterns published in, even though I have no idea how to crochet! Well learning to crochet just isn’t going to happen, so instead I bought a couple crocheted looking table runners & doilies at garage sales. Along with some pretty stones I have collected on trips with my husband (who is sweet enough to carry rocks in his pockets when I find a pretty one I just have to bring home :) I figured I could make my own version of crocheted stones.

My version of crocheted stones cut from a table runner…

These were very simple to put together, all you really need is an old doily, a stone, some thick embroidery thread, and a needle… An in progress shot…

They are not as pretty on the bottom as the one I bought last summer, but since no one sees the bottom I think that is okay :) I love them & that is what counts :) I am definitely going to make a couple more!
