Life & Decorating

For a little while there everything slowed down & I was able to somewhat catch up with life… It has gone back to full speed though with photo sessions, weddings to photograph, family & four little furry creatures to care for (one who is quickly becoming not so little – weighing in at 51 lbs the other day! well on his way to becoming an 80 lb adult hopefully :), and a couple full on decorating/remodeling projects… Yikes, a lot of stuff! In case you think I am super-women or anything (ok don’t laugh if you know me in real life :), the house needs vacuuming and I don’t cook… Luckily, I have a wonderful husband who is supportive of my job/business and cooks (since otherwise I am not sure we would eat ;).

Anyways, I am still around just trying to fit everything in. Currently my craft room is packed up in tubs & scattered around our family room. In the meantime my craft room sits mostly empty while I paint my fabric cupboards (and after that the walls & moldings),wait for my flooring to be delivered, and finally eventually get/install the cabinets to finish the room… If it wasn’t so scary I might show an in progress photo, but one of the walls isn’t even finished drywall (we took some v-groove paneling down and are going to repair the drywall/replace the paneling with real beadboard)…

I did laugh the other night as we were pulling the room apart…. It just hit me that so much of home projects is taking apart something that is okay (but not your style, not quite good enough, etc.) just to put it all back together again. Yes it is totally worth it (especially when a space isn’t functioning well), but from the outside looking in it might seem kind of crazy :) Well I am sure I will have more to share of the ongoing project that is my craft room soon… The cupboards should be painted soon & I will start sharing some of the progress :)

As a totally unrelated sidenote – awhile back Tara at Baby Lifestyles contacted me about featuring the baby shower I hostessed this summer. Anyways, after a little email interview Baby Lifestyles wrote a fabulous piece (and made my ramblings sound lovely!)… Click on the button to stop over & read it :)

Thoughts & Giveaway Winner

Do you ever have those days where you wish you could do one thing & yet your day is full of other less fun stuff? Like today I am totally wishing for some sewing time, so that I can work on a few projects… My day today though consists of cleaning the house, working on business stuff, and making sure a certain puppy gets enough exercise… Oh well! Sewing will have to wait for another day! I do have about a billion ideas running through my head though after attending a quilt guild meeting last night! Not totally sure if I am going to join the guild (it is a more traditional one – I do love the modern quilt guild here in Seattle, but it is often on days that don’t work for me), but it was an interesting experience & it might be fun to join. Anyone else a part of a more traditional guild? Would you recommend joining? Is it worth it?

Anyways, bunches of random thoughts there :) The real reason for posting today though is to announce the winner of my 6th blogiversary giveaway. After entering everyone in a little spreadsheet & drawing a random number, the winner is… (Drumroll please ;)

Evelyn! Congrats! I will send you the gift certificate via email! :)

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments! It made my day to read each & every one! :)

Now you will feel no rain…

I think to explain this post, you probably need a little history :) Almost 7 years ago on a cold snowy day, I got married to my best friend & now husband – Ben. We wrote our own vows, but also had a poem read during our wedding. I have always wanted to do something with that poem & when I saw this artwork I was inspired to create this…It is a 16×20 canvas painted with acrylics. I actually used paint & a brush to write out the words, because I wanted the words to have a very raw look (the painting that inspired me is done differently, but still neat). I painted the background a very light pinkish/white. Eventually this is going to hang in our bedroom & I plan on painting the walls a light blue, so I think it will contrast nicely.

Oh & I thought I would share the poem (you might notice I left out the last couple lines, I thought it worked better in art form that way).

Now you will feel no rain
For each of you will be shelter
    To the other.
Now you will feel no cold
For each of you will be warmth
    To the other.
Now you will feel no loneliness
For each of you will be companionship
    To the other.
Now you are two persons
But there is only one life
    Between you.
Go now to your dwelling place
To enter into the days of your life
    Together.
- Native American Wedding Prayer

This was really such an easy project, but I love the results since it is so special to us…

Just wanted to mention that the giveaway is still open, be sure to take a look at my last post for that :)
