  • Welcome to Sew Click Create!

A little about me - I live in the Seattle area with my 3 sweet cats (Pounce, Axel, & Izze) and german shepherd (Kairo). I am a professional photographer and have my own portrait & wedding photography business (Chara Michele Photography).

I have been blogging for over 7 years. The name Sew Click Create was inspired by the things that I love to share in this space. You will find a little bit of everything that I love about life here… Sewing, quilting, photography, inspiration, decorating my home, and a bit of the everyday mixed in as well.

I love to hear from readers, so drop me a line or leave a comment to say hi!

I try my best to respond to comments & questions from readers, but since I run my own business I don’t always get to them right away. I read every single one though! (And it always makes me smile when I see a bunch of new comments, so go ahead! :)

I hope you enjoy reading my blog, thanks for stopping by!

Summer Holiday

Since my sewing machine is in for service this week, I thought I would share some photos today from a vacation this summer instead… Some crafting projects next post I promise! :)

What is the saying? Something like the shoemaker’s kids are the last to have shoes or something… Well, the photographer’s family is always the last to have photos right ;)

I went on a bit of a holiday/vacation this summer to visit family & be in warmer temps. It was the end of July, when the rain just felt like it was never going to stop & we had not had a nice warm day yet in Seattle. (To all the people who I overheard in the grocery store/target/doctor’s office saying we had such a warm summer this year – I have proof we didn’t get summer until August! And summer until August does not count as being a warm/nice summer in my book! My husband commented at the time that it was good I was going to get a visit in with family & get some warmer temps, because he knew how much I needed some warm weather!) Anyways ;) It was lovely getting to see family & warm up a bit. I took lots of photos of course, but you wouldn’t know that until recently since of course my own personal photos & family photos are always the last to get processed around here :)

Just thought I would share a few of my favorites from that long weekend… (I apologize for how many there are, but I loved all of these so much :)

You can’t have a vacation without the beach :) And sunsets along the beach are the most beautiful!

I love how just a minute or two can totally change the light & colors of a sunset!

My sister’s sweet rescue kitty… He showed up on their doorstep one day & never left :)

More time enjoying the beach & water…

Eating brunch at one of my favorite restaurants ever! Where they have goats on the grass roof!

I am fairly certain I took this next photo from the moving car (I wasn’t driving)… I just couldn’t resist snapping a photo of a barn quilt though!

My mother’s (new to her) sewing machine… I think it even works! And it looks darling in her home…

I asked my dad to pull the car over when I saw these cows standing in the field next to the road… For a girl who grew up around farm land, you wouldn’t think I would get so excited to take photos of cows… But for some reason I sort of miss seeing them on the sides of the roads… And these cows were so social & friendly! The kids in our family all got to pet them and we had a blast while I took some portraits of the cows :)

I love the Pacific Northwest with its mountains & trees, but there is something just as beautiful about a sunset over fields & prairie… Contemplating printing this one for our house even… I love the feel of it!

And yes it is true, life at the beach is pretty great…

Sari - I didn’t rescue Norman…. He rescued me from a life without the sweetest kitten imaginable. :)

Helen - Your photographs are amazing! I live in the Midwest, and except for the sunsets on the beach, your photos pretty much capture the landscape that I see every day. I love cows… and there’s even a Restaurant with goats on the roof top in Door County. Thanks for sharing :-)

Quilt Show

Just had to share this :) A few weeks back I had one of my favorite quilts in a local quilt show… I am part of a local guild that puts on a yearly quilt show & thought I would have this quilt in the show.

It was wonderful to see my quilt hanging next to so many other beautiful quilts! When I started quilting I had no idea there were quilt guilds, quilt retreats, and such a whole world surrounding quilting. I was already blogging, so I knew about some of it but the more I quilt the more women I find who also quilt. It is an amazing community! Being a “younger” quilter, I wasn’t sure about joining a traditional guild… I had no idea if the yearly dues would be worth it or if I would connect with any of the women in the guild. Well, I am happy to say it is so worth it! If you can, join a guild! I know there are modern guilds (I even go to the Seattle one on occasion), but I love the traditional guild I am a part of so much! I might not be the most traditional quilter ever, but there is so much you can learn from other quilters even if your style is not the same.

Also, if you get the chance to have your quilts in a quilt show jump at it! This is the second time I have had (this) quilt on display & it is so exciting to see it hanging up in a show! It really doesn’t matter if you win a ribbon, just getting to experience seeing your quilt hanging & pushing yourself to do something new is worth it! I am so happy I did! In fact, I am already thinking about next year’s quilt for the quilt show! :)

A glimpse at the quilt show floor (you can see my quilt hanging on the left there)…

Friendship Wall Hanging

One of my friends moved across the country this year… She was one of the first friends I met when we moved out here & part of a close knit circle of friends. So it was hard to see her go, but she needed to. So when I saw this friendship kit, I just knew I had to make it for her! She loves Mary Engelbreit & this is a Mary Engelbreit design, so it was just perfect!

My mother helped me put it together at the retreat (she didn’t actually bring any projects with her, we just worked on all mine :) We attached little sleeves on the back for hanging through a wooden dowel or curtain rod if she wants. And it is lightly quilted around the borders.

Hopefully every time my friend looks at it, she will think of her friends back in Seattle who miss her! :)

Finished! Circles Quilt

This finished project is a pretty big deal to me! I love this quilt, but am so happy to actually have it finished! I took it to a couple different quilt retreats & managed to finish it at the last one. (I don’t think I have ever had a quilt get so many questions & comments on it as this one seems to in person!)

It is going to live with my sister & her husband and is queen sized for their bed :) I think it turned out perfectly for the two of them!

I used an Eggplant solid for the back of every circle so that when quilted together the back would be solid & the prints would be on display in the front… I love how the quilting shows up on the back too!

And hopefully she will send me some photos when it makes it to their home, but for now I stuck it on our bed just to see how it looked :)

Steph - My jaw dropped a little that you made this and not even for yourself! I might just be a heartless person but I don’t think I could make such a beautiful work of art and give it to someone else. It’s gorgeous and oh I love that shade of purple. Not sure I could ever make one but where did you get the pattern from? (Just in case I get over confident and try to make one!)

Joy - I am eeking like crazy.. my favorite color is purple… and I LOVE!! this quilt. I do remember you had it at the retreat. it truly is beautiful. They will love it so much. great job!

Lea - O please tell where you got the pattern from. I fell I love this quilt think it will be the perfect gift for my roommate.

katie - I’m just in love with the colors! The large orange peel works great, did you do it on your machine?

Evelyn - Looks awesome! Great job getting it done!
